its a good laptop fast run almost everything. its a little heavy and the drive door is pretty cheap made but besides that i give this 5 stars this is my 3rd laptop and the best one yet.

I picked this up since the price was much lower than any other laptop with similar specs. I am extremely impressed as I can run games on full graphics and have not seen it drop below 30 fps. If anyone is looking for a mid to higher end laptop for a low price this is the one. I couldn't find anything close to this for less than $1500.

I purchased two Gateway FX7800 series laptops, one for my wife, and one for me so we could play PC games together while we relax on the couch. I purchased both of them earlier this year, and both are defective. My laptop has been sent in multiple times now for screen freezes/blue screens, appparently it's a known issue I discovered after researching on the internet. Sadly when I call in to their tech support I am just told to send it in again.
Well the first time I sent it in for repairs, it was sent back with the case cracked, and the battery mounts broken, and yes still freezing up. The second time I sent it back it came back with them promising me the hard drive was causing the issue and it was replaced. First the hard drive was not replaced, second it is still freezing up, the touch pad isn't working properly, and they want me to send it in a third time.
My wifes laptop (apparently another known issue I discovered by researching on the internet) shorted out completely. Apparently gateway uses an unusual "L" shaped plug that doesn't sit right, eventually wears out, and then shorts out your system. I am concerned that it will happen to my laptop next.
We spent $2500 for these 2 laptops new and to be honest I have spent more time lately waiting for my laptop to be repaired, than I have been actually using it.
Gateways tech support isn't very helpful either they basically just give you an incident/case # and tell you to mail it in .. repeatedly. You will not get forwarded to anyone else no matter how many times you ask for a supervisor.
Buyer beware with Gateway at this time, until they get their act together and fix what appears to be known issues. This is really unfortunate, because while they were working they are fairly good desktop gaming replacement laptops.
